[Viktor follows immediately after, unable to hold himself back any further now that Jayce has fully let go. He keeps doing his best to move out and in, thrusts that become increasingly aborted as Jayce squeezes around him and he feels his own release. His mouth is pressed against Jayce's shoulder, a half-kiss that becomes more of an open-mouthed pant as they both ride out their orgasms. Viktor holds on a few more seconds after Jayce goes fully limp, but soon enough he's joining him, arms loosening their hold and suddenly feeling a little boneless.
He remembers how tired he is. How part of him wanted to climb out of the bath and go right to sleep. There's no danger of him leaving the bed, not at this point.]
I'm not going anywhere. I don't think I could even if I wanted to.
[He sounds a little breathless, the comment more of a testament to his exhaustion than anything else. Viktor leans into the kiss, letting Jayce guide it, eyes fluttering closed in an effort to simply enjoy the feeling of it for as long as he can. He doesn't need to be told to stay inside, but as the minutes go by it starts to get uncomfortable, so when he's able, he breaks the kiss and pulls out, rolling over onto his back, chest still heaving.
Still, he wants to be touching. A hand brushes over Jayce's side, already missing the close contact.]
[ Jayce is overheated, sweating, and sticky, and he doesn't care, he leans back into Viktor's body and gives a very happy and contented sigh. He does make an unhappy noise when Viktor pulls out of him, but he understands. He turns onto his back as well, wiping hands over his face, feeling deeply satisfied down to his bones. He turns his head to look at Viktor when his hand touches him and he smiles softly, turning onto his side facing him.
He nods at the request but leans in for a kiss first now that he isn't at an odd angle. He kisses Viktor's forehead and then sits up, knowing if he gets his mouth too distracted it might take a while. ]
Anything you want.
[ Jayce is going to bring him things and spoil him rotten now that he knows he can. His body feels so relaxed and loose, he hasn't felt this way in a long time. He pushes into a stand and feels unsteady on his feet so he has to take a step back to center himself. He turns to look at Viktor and full-out grins. ]
You've made me weak in the knees.
[ He laughs and there is a bit of a sting but it's good, he feels worn out and thoroughly wrecked. Jayce leaves the room to get the rag full of chilly water, since they're overheated, slung over his arm for now, and brings two glasses of water back to the bedroom. He walks casually and confidently naked, hoping that maybe Viktor appreciates it, always looking to please even when he knows he does. His eyes travel over Viktor's worn-out body, so obviously into it. ]
Relax, I got this.
[ He offers Viktor the glass of water, setting his own to the side for now, and picks up one of the pillows to put behind Viktor's head. He wants to pamper him, and he is testing to see if Viktor will still let him. He slides onto the bed again and takes Viktor's hand that had been stroking him, cleaning off his fingers. If he lets him, he very gently wipes off his now soft cock, not being teasing, merely thorough. ]
We should move my bed into here tomorrow, make it one big bed. We can make that a working room.
[ By we, Jayce of course means him, Viktor's not going to carry his bed frame in here. But he doesn't see a reason to have two when he fully plans on sleeping here, next to Viktor, for the rest of their days. ]
Did you think I wouldn't know what I was doing, or something?
[Jayce wanted to get pounded into the mattress--maybe the position had been a different than what he imagined, but Viktor thinks he fulfilled the request in spirit. So that's a joke, masking real concern for how quickly Jayce springs up out of bed. He gives a sympathetic wince, but soon enough Jayce is out of the room, presumably to clean up and then bring everything Viktor requested. When he returns, he'll find Viktor sitting up in bed, having stuffed pillows behind him to lean on (though he does not object to an additional one, slotting in behind his head).
He does appreciate the view, evidenced by the way his eyes follow Jayce as he enters the room and sets down the glasses on the beside table. Viktor will even let Jayce clean him up, adjusting as necessary and then making space on the bed. Once his hands are clean he reaches for the glass of water and drinks deeply, more spent by all of this than he perhaps anticipated.
It doesn't surprise him that Jayce is already making plans. He's been nothing but clear about the level to which he wants to commit. Viktor isn't quite sure how he wants to address that, yet, but he agrees that they should be sharing a bed from here on out.]
No, I know you're good at everything you put your mind to.
[ He assumes it's a joke because he's been very clear about how deeply he enjoyed the sex they just had. Jayce is already thinking about doing it again, although obviously not yet, he knows Viktor is exhausted, and they both aren't so young as to be able to spring up within a few minutes. He knows they have a lot of time ahead of them together, he's just very excited to move forward as a couple.
Jayce feels Viktor's gaze on him and warms under the attention, a little smug. There's nothing wrong with a little ego-stroking in this case, in his opinion. He would preen if he wasn't currently naked. He settles onto the bed next to him and drinks his own water. He is a little parched, having been sweating for most of that, and Viktor thoroughly ruined him.
Maybe it was presumptuous to go right to sleeping together permanently, but Jayce has been clear, and Viktor is aware. The soft way he replies though makes him look over and he sets his glass to the side after guzzling most of it. He then sits up on the bed next to him and puts a big arm over his shoulder, leaning in to kiss his cheek gently.]
Good, I want to wake up to you every morning.
[ Jayce does realize that in most situations this would be too much, it's not as if he said any of this to Mel. They were not going to move in together any time soon, and he didn't crave her constant attention. This is all very specific to Viktor, that he's being so pushy and declaring the depth of what he wants from this. Everything. He reaches over to take Viktor's free hand and lifts it to his mouth, kissing the palm sweetly. ]
I know you're exhausted, love, between the road and this, how about you relax and get some well-earned sleep? I'll be right here.
[The good news, at least, is that they've known each other so long this feels like a natural progression, something easy to slip into, like it's simply the next, inevitable step in the sequence of their years together. Agreeing to share a bed is not necessarily a huge leap--at least in the sense that he thinks he can get away with it while continuing to avoid a very serious conversation with Jayce about what it's going to mean, to be in a relationship with him, even with the stop-gap methods they're employing. The healing. The research. There are still going to be difficult times ahead. More bad days than good ones.
Now, basking in afterglow, it seems inappropriate to bring it up. He'll put it off, for now, because it's easier to indulge in the attention, instead, and he's increasingly succumbing to the exhaustion of his unplanned adventure. He leans into Jayce's embrace and settles against his side, watching the way their hands intertwine.]
You don't have to watch me sleep.
[He'll do it anyway, but Viktor will be adamant that Jayce isn't obligated. Still, he can agree that they've both had enough excitement for one day.]
[ This really does feel like a natural extension of their relationship, and that was what Jayce expected it to be like. They've settled in together so easily in every other way. The reason things went wrong for them just before they came here is that they stopped leaning on each other the way they used to. And now they are again.
Jayce does suspect they'll have to talk about some things. Boundaries, Viktor mentioned they had to talk about those, and learn how to adapt to having this and their lives. Although Jayce personally feels like they should be allowed to indulge in this for a little while, give themselves permission to be happy together. As if he could stop now that he had Viktor in his arms. He comfortably keeps his arm around Viktor and looks down at him with so much love in his eyes. And he doesn't have to hold back anymore or hide it. ]
I will, don't worry. Go to sleep, V.
[ Jayce isn't that tired yet, but he assumes he will be as he relaxes. He will get a little time to look at Viktor's face while he sleeps. He's allowed now. He kisses Viktor's hand again and then holds it, rubbing his thumb along his knuckles soothingly.
Jayce does sleep but he is up by dawn every day, so there's no getting around that. He is very careful when he does need to get up, since Viktor looks genuinely conked out and in a deep sleep. It's so he can make sure Viktor's travel clothes will be ready to be cleaned, and he actually takes a few moments to clean Viktor's braces as well, since he's been traveling so much in general. He brings them back into the room so they're easy to get. Jayce puts together a little breakfast in case Viktor's hungry as soon as he gets up, they did really go at each other, and sets it to the side with some fresh water and juice.
Feeling accomplished, Jayce returns to bed. Jayce is gentle and careful to take his place back next to Viktor and curl him back up into his arms. He encourages Viktor's head onto his chest to rest there so his arm can hold him close to his side. It's nice to see Viktor sleeping this deeply and long, knowing his boyfriend to be a little more restless. He clearly needed it. Jayce drifts into a light doze, not fully asleep, but feeling comfortable until Viktor eventually stirs. ]
[Viktor doesn't know when, exactly, he falls asleep. What he does register is sinking into Jayce's arms and the pillows and the mattress, simply letting himself be held until he slips off into unconsciousness. There's a reason he doesn't really let himself get as much rest as he needs--when he's out, he's really out, and the combination of the harrowing excursion, a week in a wagon, and their own bedroom activities means that sleep finds Viktor quickly and completely. At some point, he becomes aware that Jayce leaves the bed, probably to take care of a few things, but he's so throughly exhausted that he's never fully roused by any of it.
He sleeps into the evening and through the night. When he finally does awaken, it's long past dawn (when he, too, prefers to get up), sun streaming in through the room's little window. It takes him a moment to remember the events of the previous day, though the presence of the large body currently enveloping him is a good reminder. The contented noise that escapes him when he realizes where he is and how he came to be here more-or-less says it all.
Viktor shifts in Jayce's arms, twisting a little to look at him and see if he's awake. It's nice--just to watch, and linger in the moment, but eventually he speaks up.]
Hi.
[He's well-rested, for once. Fully mellowed out, expression soft, apparently pleased by this turn of events. A rare look, for him.]
[ Jayce begins to pull out of his doze when he hears Viktor make a sound, feeling him move but coming out of it slowly himself, his expression peaceful. He opens his eyes slowly to look down at Viktor. Viktor's eyes look so incredibly gold in this lighting and maybe it's the feeling good part too, but it's breathtaking. Jayce already told him how much he likes looking at him, but it's obvious in how his own eyes trail over every inch of his angular and lovely face. Jayce smiles, bright as the sun outside. He is ridiculously happy and it radiates out of him right now. ]
Hi.
[ He lifts a hand to cup his face, caressing his cheekbone. His body feels good this morning, outside of a little ache, but it's a pleasant one because of what it means. Jayce has never seen him this soft and vulnerable in all the time they've known one another, and that means something to him. ]
I love you.
[ Once Jaybe broke the barrier of holding it back, it comes so easily to him now, and he's going to say it frequently. It never is being used in a way that implies he wants to hear it back though, it's him sharing what shines through from his heart. ]
I can't believe how lucky I am to be with you.
[ That's the thing about having Jayce in love with you. He is terribly sincere, and even if it seems cheesy, the things he says, he means them. Jayce is with the man of his dreams now. He gets to love Viktor freely, compliment him, kiss him, take care of him, be his partner in all aspects, have sex with him, and it's incredible to have the freedom for all of those things. He feels lucky.
He runs his fingers through Viktor's sleep-tousled hair and gently pulls him up, hoping to get a morning kiss out of him. ]
[He can't say he ever imagined this specific scenario--at least, not in the way Jayce probably spent years turning it over in his head, but if he had, he thinks it would have played out exactly like this. Jayce is as gentle and considerate as Viktor expects him to be, and all of his feelings are right out on his sleeves (or they would be, if either of them were wearing any clothes). It's tempting to close his eyes against the hand that caresses his face and fall asleep again, but he wills himself to stay awake.
Jayce looks good. Satisfied. Deeply happy. It's infectious, even if Viktor can't quite voice the same sentiments so openly.]
Did you sleep well?
[Viktor's hair is sticking out at every possible angle, certainly not helped by the fact that he went straight from the bathtub to the bed and hasn't left yet. He'll accept the kiss, though he keeps it short, still groggy from sleep. He thinks, vaguely, that he should get up. Brush his teeth, wash his face. Jayce certainly isn't going anywhere, but his body protests the very thought of it. This is the longest he's spent in a bed in a quite a while, and it's tempting to simply enjoy it for a little longer.]
Yeah, I did. You were completely out, you really needed it.
[ Jayce feels confident Viktor won't be grumpy about him letting him sleep as long as he needed, the two of them are lounging in bed, and it's his opinion that they have no reason to go anywhere for the next twenty-four hours or so. After nearly dying multiple times and sleeping in a wagon for a week, Viktor could do with another good night of sleep too. Jayce will do what he can to persuade him.
The fact he's been up a little longer is proven by the fact he did brush his teeth and Viktor can taste it when they kiss, but it definitely isn't keeping Jayce from enjoying a kiss from him, morning breath or not. He smooths down Viktor's hair but likes it this way, tousled and wild. It's thick and beautiful, always has been. ]
I made breakfast.
[ He glances over to where he set the tray down within reaching distance, although it will require leaning or moving a little over on the bed to get. Which he will in a second. Jayce brushes his lips to Viktor's forehead, his arm around him tightening a little in a nice hug. ]
How about ....
[ Jayce tips Viktor's chin back to look at him, smiling. ]
You stay here and relax, start eating, and I'll make the coffee. I was waiting for when you'd get up. Or I can bring tea. What do you want?
I didn't sleep well in the wagon, if you can believe it.
[Now that he's awake, his thoughts are on work, and the lab, but the general level of comfort and Jayce's insistence on relaxing means he suppresses the urge to bring it up. It can wait, maybe, though it does occur to him that Lee must be wondering where her employee is. Most of those thoughts leave his head, however, when Jayce starts trying to tame his hair. He closes his eyes and leans into it almost involuntarily, enjoying the feeling of being so casually touched.
When Jayce keeps talking, however, he blinks his eyes open again, looking a little confused, like he's not sure how he's supposed to respond to someone doing something like this for him.]
You...made breakfast?
[Or you bought breakfast, is the unspoken additional question. He's not going to say no, but it doesn't sit right with him that he gets to stay in bed while Jayce does all the work. He shifts on the mattress, clearly moving to get up.]
Okay, I technically bought breakfast by restocking our food tomorrow morning before you got back, but I did situate it.
[ Jayce really needed to keep busy while he was waiting. It actually got worse the closer to when Viktor would get there, his impatience making it harder. So he cleaned the place and restocked everything, especially with Viktor's favorite foods and some fresh fruit and sweets. All part of his nervous energy while he counted down the hours. But the food is very fresh! So it still counts. He's not a good cook, although his mother taught him enough to get by. ]
No, I ---
[ Jayce says no but he doesn't stop Viktor, sitting up and reaching out to touch his shoulder, sliding his hand down to his elbow and then to Viktor's hand. ]
I wanted to spoil you, like in the bath.
[ He blushes because it's not as simple as spoiling, Jayce likes it. He's a giver and there's no better way to make him happy than to find actions to show that he loves someone. Jayce kisses Viktor's hand and his eyes have a little bit of shyness to them when he looks at him. He's never really gotten to be like this with a partner, none of them were long enough, and he feels like he's been storing up his desires in intimacy as well as sex.
He lets his hand go though, of course Viktor can get up and do whatever he wants! ]
But if you really want to get the tea, we can meet back here and eat together?
[ Jayce sounds hopeful because this is new to both of them and he still isn't certain all the things he's allowed to want or ask for, ready to adapt as they go. Does he have permission to pull Viktor back into his arms? Can they make the tea together and he can kiss his neck? ]
[Now that he's more awake and looking around, he can see Jayce's efforts--breakfast, on a tray. Glasses of water and juice on the bedside table. He is being spoiled, and despite the fact that he thinks he likes it, Viktor also needs to resist indulging, at least a little. He doesn't want to make a habit of it.
He also doesn't want to disappoint Jayce, who is, as always, incredibly eager and incredibly earnest. Viktor sits up further, reaching for his crutch that he left leaning against the wall the previous night, within arm's reach. Before he stands fully, however, he leans back in and presses his lips to Jayce's, a nonverbal expression of thanks that he hopes says more than words can.]
I just want to go to the washroom. If you'd like to make me tea, you can.
[Meeting Jayce in the kitchen once he uses the bathroom and scrubs some of the sleep out of his eyes seems like an acceptable compromise. Viktor takes a few moments to himself once he's closed the door behind him, washing his face, wiping himself down with a damp cloth, coughing into the sink despite all efforts to keep it in. Better here than in the bedroom or otherwise in front of Jayce, he reasons, watching red swirl down the drain, a stark reminder that, despite everything that's happened over the last two days, they're still on a time limit.
He moves automatically after that, trying not to think about it and resolving to enjoy the morning, and all of Jayce's efforts. Viktor brushes his teeth, scrubbing the taste of blood out of his mouth. He pulls on a clean pair of boxer shorts, then finds Jayce in the kitchen.
Viktor doesn't say anything--he simply slides up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and letting his forehead come to rest at Jayce's back.]
[ Jayce has spent so much time controlling himself around Viktor. It wasn't always obvious, but it was in a friendly way too, he kept things within boundaries. He wanted to be able to touch him, to hold him, it isn't always romantic, but he still is going to have to learn that he is allowed to let himself off that leash a little bit. He communicated his desire and gets rewarded with a kiss, definitely the reassurance he needs.
Jayce does not bother with clothes, he's comfortable being naked around Viktor now. Maybe a part of it is that he hopes even a slight glance from Viktor to look at him will feel nice. Like he's said before, other people finding him attractive isn't the same thing as Viktor finding him attractive. He is cheerful as he puts the kettle on and sorts through a few of their tea leaves. He picks out Viktor's favorites.
It is surprising to him when Viktor steps up behind him and he can feel his smooth skin against him. He is going to get used to him being more affectionate than he expected, it's really better than he could have imagined. Jayce smiles and puts a hand on Viktor's arm, squeezing. ]
Now you're the one spoiling me.
[ Doing small acts of love like breakfast and tea is legitimate, but so is showing it in physical gestures. Jayce soaks it in, happy it won't only last a few seconds before he has to let it go. No more longing for him. ]
Thanks for indulging me, V.
[ It feels good. Helpful. ]
I asked Lee for the day off because I wanted to spend it with you. If that's okay.
[ As usual he is a little careful about being too much, but he figures one day is pretty reasonable. Of course, he plans on taking advantage of Viktor every day, but within reason. ]
[Viktor grunts a little in response, muffled by the way he's pressed his face into Jayce's back, but he squeezes tighter around Jayce's middle, hoping that's sufficient enough. He's only just starting to realize how much he's withheld his own affections. Now that they've throughly eliminated the last barrier between them, Viktor can't resist the urge to simply touch Jayce as much as he possibly can--to show affection in ways he hasn't before. Hugging him from behind won't affect the tea preparation, but all bets are off when it comes to Jayce's own self-control.
Not that he's helping. Jayce calls this an indulgence and Viktor is compelled to prove him right, peppering kisses across his broad shoulders as he waits for the kettle to whistle. He's finding it surprisingly satisfying to unleash his own affections, not only for himself, but for the surprise Jayce probably feels, having him so open all at once.
Once he's satisfied, Viktor pulls his arms away and moves to Jayce's side, leaning on him a little as he inspects the tea-making situation. He peers into the mugs, assessing.]
You know how I like it, yes?
[Milk. Sugar. Jayce wouldn't have offered if he didn't know how to make it, and it seems he's cleared his schedule, to boot. Viktor, on the other hand, finds it difficult not to be industrious, and for a moment he looks a little guilty.]
I was going to check on some of my clients this afternoon. [He doesn't have a boss like Jayce has a boss, but his freelance repairs and commissions do mean he's beholden to others. He's behind on his deliverables because of his unforeseen excursion, and the more time he spends catching up on that, the less time he has for Hexcore work. Still...] Later, though.
[ It used to be that Jayce was satisfied with being allowed to touch his shoulder or back, it was the most he could ask for, and gestures back from Viktor were very rare. He's been doing more of it since they were here and so in a way there's been an escalation for months. And each one Jayce would think this is enough to get through the rest of his life. Now though his skin feels so warm where Viktor's mouth moves over his shoulders and he closes his eyes, simply taking a second to take it all in.
Then Viktor moves to his side and still leans on him, and Jayce starts to open up to the idea that maybe he can do the same. So he leans back. He laughs and takes the kettle off when it shrieks, now allowed to turn his attention. He turns toward Viktor and wraps an arm around him, turning him toward Jayce and then pulling him close to his body. ]
I know how you like it.
[ That may be a touch of innuendo although Jayce is still learning what Viktor likes in the bedroom. The tea is easy. He draws Viktor into a slow but deep kiss, taking his time to explore his mouth with his tongue, his free hand sliding into his tousled hair. One kiss turns into another and he sighs, releasing the arm around him to let his fingers trail up and down Viktor's back.
He feels a little confident at the moment and breaks for breath with his mouth moving down Viktor's face to very lightly bite the curve of his neck. He has no idea what works for him, but now is the time to explore and find out. He nuzzles there afterward. ]
What's one more day?
[ Jayce murmurs as he kisses Viktor's collar to the other side of his neck. Normally he would never dare to question a statement Viktor made, nervous to press him in case he got annoyed, but maybe he's being daring now that they've shared this. ]
[Ah. Perhaps he should have been a bit more reserved, when it came to the physical contact. Viktor is swept up in another kiss and he can't resist it, letting it happen. The hand at his back is warm, and soon enough his arms are sliding around Jayce's neck as he leans heavily into him. He doesn't try to pick up the pace, or end the kiss prematurely--just enjoys it until it comes to a natural conclusion.
He could get used to this. That's the worst part.
When the kiss finally breaks, it seems Jayce has further plans. Viktor's body responds automatically and he tilts his head backwards, allowing full access to his neck and collarbone. It still feels vulnerable--Jayce's mouth on him and the slight scrape of his teeth against the tight line of his neck makes him shudder. ]
Uh. A lot, actually.
[Every day is endlessly valuable when he might have so few of them. Jayce knows that even without the sudden undercurrent of sadness in his voice. Viktor realizes his mistake very quickly, and tries to brush it off, hands smoothing over Jayce's shoulders and chest as if trying to rid an imaginary shirt of wrinkles.]
[ Jayce wouldn't say he has exact plans, more like he's rolling with what feels good and seeing how Viktor reacts. He just wants him, is the plain truth of it. He spent so much time fantasizing about this and it's difficult not to take advantage of every moment he gets to spend with Viktor. Their kiss is long and lingering and he likes how Viktor's arms feel around his shoulders and the weight of him leaning on Jayce, trusting him.
Viktor tilts his head and Jayce takes it as permission to continue, running his tongue along the long line of his neck. He may have continued on that road to seduction but he pauses when Viktor speaks and he's hit by a wave of guilt. Every day does count to Viktor. He probably can't waste time lingering with Jayce. It isn't that Jayce forgot, but maybe he did, a little bit.
It's sweet though, him still touching Jayce despite that, his fingers sliding over his warm skin, and he nods his head. He releases Viktor so he's not in the midst of seduction anymore, although he does give him a quick kiss before they move, as reassurance for them both. He gets the tea kettle and two mugs for it, gesturing toward the bedroom. There's a tray for the breakfast so he can put it on that after pouring it. Their little make out session did not last long enough to bring down the tea temperature at least. ]
I talked with Ciri before and let her know you told me the full story. I promised I wouldn't say a word about her teleportation or what actually happened, outside of you two having an unexpected adventure that took you to Aquila.
[ Jayce figures a gentle change in conversation wouldn't hurt, unless Viktor actually wanted to talk about the other thing, so he says that as he walks back into the room. ]
[He can feel them up against a precipice. Viktor doesn't want his illness--the possibility of his death--to be this unspoken thing, not when it's going to be such a major facet of their new relationship. Right now, riding the high of their first night together and looking forward to what he might describe as a honeymoon phase, he can't bring himself to say the things he needs to talk about. Jayce will be understanding, of course, but it's going to ruin the moment. Maybe he wants some semblance of normalcy for himself, too.
Viktor decides to focus on breakfast, instead, thankful that the apartment is small so he doesn't have to go far to get back to bed. The tray is within reach, so he settles back into the pillows and selects a pastry while Jayce pours hot water into the mugs and catches him up on conversations with people outside of this room.
Right. Other people. It's hard to believe he was with Ciri only a day before.]
Thank you. I know that teleportation isn't strange to us, given our experiences, but she's understandably worried that the government will take interest in the Singularity's interference with her powers.
[He takes a bite, chewing thoughtfully and reaching for his mug.]
[ Jayce is willing to let Viktor lead on that particular conversation since it's not his life or health. He wouldn't mind a honeymoon period for a little longer though, he really wants to bask in this. It feels right and real. He does know they have to talk about it eventually, and will be open to it when they do. But as he pours Viktor his tea, he feels good about being there. He got a lot of sweets for Viktor since it's his favorite and takes one himself before settling next to his partner. Closely, still very content with any level of contact. ]
I definitely didn't plan on telling them anything.
[ These days, Jayce is very skeptical about the government. It takes one to know one. He will keep it from the Summoned too, it's her secret to tell, not his. He licks the frosting on his fingers, it's a little sticky but good. He still picks savory or healthy over sweet, but it's worth it to indulge at the moment. ]
I met Jaskier when I went to pick up your cane, he seems nice. I didn't realize that he, Geralt, and Ciri are all from the same place, but it seems that way.
[ They had the sort of family vibe that felt much older than having met in the past few months. Jayce knows what it looks like, it reminds him of Caitlyn, which aches. He misses her all the time, and his mother, pretty much the only things he misses about their world. The idea of never seeing them again is the only thing he struggles with.
Jayce kisses Viktor's cheek because he can. ]
If Ciri can find a way to teleport to and from the Singularity, and can take people with her, that seems like something that could be useful to our group. Not that I'm advocating for her to do anything she doesn't want to, but it's something for her to consider later.
[ For her to consider. Their opinion doesn't count. He wouldn't bring it up even if he is longing to go to the Singularity himself, it's not his place. They aren't close enough for that. Still, if there's ever an emergency at the Singularity, it's good to have that in the back pocket, for Ciri. He wishes he had that sort of magic. Considering they created a version of teleportation themselves, and that was his first experience of magic when the mage saved him, he has a fondness for the concept of being able to do that personally.
But he's content with the magic he's learned. He wants to show off a little so he uses his free hand and murmurs an incantation, a burst of flame appearing into his palm. Nothing extraordinary or dangerous, but it would be good for seeing in the dark. Jayce looks over at Viktor and beams, pleased to show off. ]
There are other ways for the government to find out. We need to keep this as quiet as possible.
[For Ciri's sake, but Jayce also brings up a good point--she has some connection to Geralt, and for as little as he knows about the man, he's sure he does not want to be on his bad side. He also knows that Ciri isn't going to want to use her powers in the way Jayce suggests. Sure, it might be useful for a potential excursion, to collect empirical data, but given the way the Singularity interfered with her powers...he isn't sure they should chance it again.
Being dumped into the bay once was enough for him. Who knows what might happen the next time she tries to portal more than a few feet? It's too dangerous.
Viktor's not surprised that Jayce sees only the possibility, as evidenced by the fact that he uses the current conversation as a segue to demonstrate his own powers. He's surprised, at first, more by the presence of fire in the bedroom than anything else, but his expression becomes less alarmed once he realizes what's going on. The look on Jayce's face says it all--this is a dream realized, and Viktor can't help but be thrilled for him.]
[ Jayce's only real downfall when it comes to slipping secrets is how obvious he is when he's lying. It doesn't mean that he'll spill anything, only that people get suspicious because he's getting nervous. But he promised Ciri and he takes that very seriously. His opinion might be that it's something worth following if she is open to it in the future, but that is the end of it. If some day she decides to offer it, though, he'll be all over that instantly.
While fire in the bedroom is a bad idea, Jayce does have complete control over it. He's been practicing to distract himself. There are higher-level spells he can learn, and he probably will work on them when healing isn't his primary focus. Because as good as he is at that, he has more power to grow with. Each time he heals Viktor he'll get better at it. The other spells can wait.
He turns the flame off and then does a second incantation, a swirl of wind that he blows further into the room. It doesn't do much more than feel equivalent to a breeze or a light fan, but it's nice all the same. Jayce told Viktor he feels like magic is natural to him, like he was always meant to have it. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but he really has taken to it easily and it feels right every time he uses it. ]
I was too restless while you were gone, so I tried to be productive.
[ Productive in looking inward and becoming more aware of things, which he's already talked to Viktor about, and also in work and in magic. Jayce is not someone who sits still, although that doesn't count here, where he doesn't feel still. He is in bed with the man he loves. He could sit here all day and feel like he's progressing in something just as important. ]
How'd your memoir go? Do I get an extra chapter now?
[ He's teasing. He knows Viktor didn't write a memoir. ]
[He can see what Jayce means when he says he feels like it comes naturally. Watching him go from one spell to another, looking so pleased with himself, fills Viktor with a sort of pride. He has his own theories about the arcane, about how a lack of inborn ability does not necessarily mean they can't connect with the magical forces that exist in the world around them. Hextech is proof enough of that.
Viktor wipes his hands on a cloth napkin, takes his mug of tea in both hands and then settles comfortably against Jayce's side, leaning into him. He tilts his head upward and simply look for a few long moments, expression entirely fond.]
Jayce. There's no memoir.
[Sure, all of the talk about it was clearly jokes, but just in case...]
[ Jayce has taken to magic in a way that feels like inborn talent, or maybe it's that he is so dedicated to learning it after being in love with it for years, that it's all about focus and determination. Either way, he's picking up on it fast. When he gets the time to really dive into higher-level magic, it may be his arcana symbolically is entirely correct, he will be a magician. A part of him does wish for that aspect he could be somewhere like Thorne, where magic is everywhere and he'd probably already be on his way to mastery, but he's been trained by other Summoned, and lack of access has never stopped him before.
He is happy that Viktor seems pleased for him, not openly commenting on it, but he knows that warm look in his lover's eyes. It is nice to be sitting like this, so casual, naked and sated and intimate. Having a cup of tea the morning after they finally consummated this heat between them, and it's far from the end. They've only just begun as a couple. Jayce as usual has an easier time seeing all the positive possibilities. Despite his grief and self-flagellation over his bad choices, he still is an optimist.
He turns his head toward Viktor after feeling his gaze on him and smiles at him, setting his own glass of juice to the side, so he can affectionately cup Viktor's cheek. ]
I know. I'm teasing. Although I do think your memoir would be fascinating.
[ Viktor's led a very interesting life. Jayce learned more about his childhood recently, and it's all complicated and fascinating. He could fall right into Viktor's golden eyes and drown in them. ]
I should have told you how I felt years ago. Did you really not know?
You're biased. Plus, you'd enjoy reading about yourself too much, so I can't count on you for an impartial assessment.
[With regards to, you know, this hypothetical memoir that Viktor is never going to write. It's not worth doing here, when he hasn't made the same impact on this city as he has Piltover--not that they'd really want to remember him, anyway. Really, the only reason why he might want to do it back home is to secure his own legacy in one way or another, but as always he thinks he has better uses for his time.
Despite the events of the last week (and, for that matter, last night), it still feels like they have a lot to catch up on. Viktor isn't surprised when Jayce decides to start asking some of those unanswered questions.]
I had suspicions. You're not very subtle. [But, there were so many ways to talk himself out of it. He didn't want to jeopardize their relationship. The work was too important. Then, he fell ill. It was easy to put it all out of his head.] Too much else in the way. Getting our work through the Council...I didn't want to distract myself. And, I don't know. Part of me felt that if I acted on anything, well. I had a feeling you would have said yes, and perhaps I was frightened of that.
[His face falls a little. Viktor doesn't think he needs to outright say anything about his declining health, but the truth of the matter is that sparing Jayce the worst of it was just as much of a factor as everything else.]
There was too much I needed to do. I thought that overcomplicating things between us would be...detrimental.
no subject
A wet rag. And water, please.
no subject
no subject
I think I'd like that.
[Viktor's voice is soft--surprisingly sincere.]
no subject
I'll be right here.
no subject
Now, basking in afterglow, it seems inappropriate to bring it up. He'll put it off, for now, because it's easier to indulge in the attention, instead, and he's increasingly succumbing to the exhaustion of his unplanned adventure. He leans into Jayce's embrace and settles against his side, watching the way their hands intertwine.]
You don't have to watch me sleep.
[He'll do it anyway, but Viktor will be adamant that Jayce isn't obligated. Still, he can agree that they've both had enough excitement for one day.]
Maybe you should get some rest, too.
no subject
no subject
A rare look, for him.]
no subject
no subject
Jayce looks good. Satisfied. Deeply happy. It's infectious, even if Viktor can't quite voice the same sentiments so openly.]
Did you sleep well?
[Viktor's hair is sticking out at every possible angle, certainly not helped by the fact that he went straight from the bathtub to the bed and hasn't left yet. He'll accept the kiss, though he keeps it short, still groggy from sleep. He thinks, vaguely, that he should get up. Brush his teeth, wash his face. Jayce certainly isn't going anywhere, but his body protests the very thought of it. This is the longest he's spent in a bed in a quite a while, and it's tempting to simply enjoy it for a little longer.]
no subject
What do you want?
no subject
Uh, tea. I can help.
no subject
no subject
Viktor doesn't say anything--he simply slides up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and letting his forehead come to rest at Jayce's back.]
no subject
no subject
Still...] Later, though.
no subject
no subject
Let's eat breakfast. Then we can decide.
no subject
no subject
If they knew.
no subject
no subject
You've been practicing.
no subject
