( Jayce is oblivious to flirting, most of the time people have to be very direct for him to get it. Mel had to kiss him, he missed all her cues, and Viktor had to pretty much outright tell him. He thinks Dean might be flirting but assumes it is playful, it's not as if it's a secret he and Viktor are together. Still the flattery is hard not to take in because Jayce is very susceptible to it, so he remains flustered. )

I'm actually a scientist, not a blacksmith, my family business is creating tools and smithing, so I already had those skills from growing up in a forge. I had this theory that magic could power technology, that they could be used together. I was doing highly illegal experimentation to prove it and I got arrested, Viktor actually arrested me on behalf of our mentor.
( It is a great story and he always finds it funny to tell.)
But Viktor helped me prove it was real. Once they saw it in action, they funded the project and we spent the last seven years creating new technology for our city. We created these incredible machines called the Hexgates, they can teleport anything across the world in a single instant. It changed all the trade routes and economy.
( Jayce speaks animated because Hextech he is always proud of. )
Early on when we were trying to sell people on it, it was decided I was the person who should be the face of the company and then it snowballed from there once the Hexgates were completed.
