caught in the rain

It's quite the cliche, that Viktor could always sense a rainstorm coming with unnerving accuracy. The humidity is the culprit, not content simply to set his hair against him but his joints too, his bad leg aching as if in complaint at the incoming weather. Growing up he paid more attention, given the rains of Zaun were dangerous times all the chemicals building up around them seeped into the droplets.

In Piltover the rain is clean, and Viktor's attention went lax with it. A little extra ache was easily mistaken for too long standing in the lab or ignored completely. He has so much more now to focus on after all, days and nights spent shooting ideas back and forth with Jayce, Hextech growing in pleasing bounds over chalkdust and half empty mugs scattered about.

That's why the first drop of rain surprises him. It is evening in the city, the tail end of a lengthy trip to try and coax an uppity noble into showing them his rare manuscripts on the arcane. Typically Viktor left smoozing to Jayce but the man refused to let the books leave his library or be copied, so of course they were forced to make small talk with the infuriating man.

At the very least the manuscripts were incredibly useful, especially the ones pertaining to runes. That doesn't stop him from sighing in relief when they leave the noble's house. Just a long walk back to the academy district now.

"For tonight alone I take back any quip I've made when you whined about dealing with people like that," Viktor informs Jayce, glancing up when that first stray rain drop does its job and surprises him by falling on his temple. He ignores it in favor of regarding his partner.
