It's come to my attention that I'm now older than you were when we first met.

I'd been meaning to ask if that was a new gray this morning, but I got busy and forgot.
You're absolutely ridiculous.
But I'm afraid that sounds far too much like experience to be a coincidence, so you've had gray hair before after all.

Very young?
Did it come from someone else's head then?

Only if you'll remind me to ask you how it feels to be the same age as my parents then.
[Feels good to be back to normal banter, doesn't it?]

In that case, is it a bad time to remind you that you're almost as old as my parents were when we met?
You can't hear the laugh I just gave, but know that it happened.
[Unless he's home, and then maybe he could have. Dun dun dun....]

[Good, that means she's safe from retaliation. The perfect crime.]
I think you might be right about that.

[Truly awful. The worst.]
Something useful, but nothing involving the military. Or government.

I suppose it would make sense to see what other people do with their time, but if they're already doing it I'm not sure I'd be needed for it then.
I know I want to learn magic, like you have. I want to be able to help people.

Me.
Go back to school...
I'd never considered it before, but I don't suppose there's a reason why I shouldn't.

[Much as he did back in December, Viktor gets up early and disappears to work long before Jayce awakens, leaving an obviously pre-meditated box and letter waiting for him on the kitchen table. As if there's any question about who it might be from, the name Jayce is written on the envelope in Viktor's familiar, hurried script.
The content, at least, is much more pleasant than the last letter he had to write.]
Jayce,
There is nothing I can write here that hasn't already been said. Thank you for this past year, and for everything you've done to make our future together possible. I can't wait to share it with you.
Yours always,
Viktor
[Inside the box is, predictably, the ring that he promised. Viktor has done his best to make them match, more or less, though Jayce's is appropriately gold and the design of the gears has more of his own signature on it. He's taken a few artistic liberties, not content to just duplicate Jayce's design, and of course he's enchanted it accordingly, the bands and gears moving of their own accord.
It has a protection spell too, of course, enhanced with his own blood--not that he's going to make any of that known.
And then, within the box, a small, additional scrap of paper.]
P.S. I spoke to the owner of our workshop building. He's looking to sell.

Obviously I'll need to think about it, but I think you might be onto something.
